About Shannon’s

A Place to Grow…

Dancing Since 1974, Shannon’s has a longstanding history of providing dance education in a positive non-competitive atmosphere. We pride ourselves on the personalized attention we give our patrons and strive to show all students love and encouragement! That’s why Shannon’s dancers bring their children here, generation upon generation! Loving attention is paired with discipline in very structured classes, designed to progress with each child’s age and ability. For your satisfaction, we provide small class sizes, placement with peers in close age-range, parent viewing, and competitive rates!

Mile Markers…

FALL: During peak season our classes run September through May, rounding out the school-year with our phenomenal Annual Recital! All of our students are encouraged to participate, as it is a thrilling experience for every child to be a STAR! Enrollment for fall classes begins in August. All students who start in the fall (Sept. – Nov) may participate in the spring Recital, if one so chooses.

SPRING: Spring Classes are limited and may vary. Call us for details on availability.

SUMMER: The “Summer-Fun Session” at Shannon’s offers 6 weeks of class running mid-June through July. Registration begins in May. The summer is a great time for beginners to try dance for the first time, or for experienced dancers to stay fresh in continuing their dance education. We encourage our students to take this time to try something new, or focus intently on perfecting their skill and technique! And, for mothers and others, we offer tons of Adult classes as well!

Before Shannon was born, her mother, Kalah Street studied dance with Eddie Gay and was one of Francis Osborne’s “Stars of the Future” in California. Kalah studied under Henry Richards and Al and Marian Hodgini in Evansville and became a dance instructor.
By 1974, Kalah’s 17 year-old daughter, Shannon Silkey also began teaching at Hodgini’s, a historic dance studio of Evansville, IN established in 1953. Shortly after, Shannon and her mother Kalah started their own fledgling studio, Shannon’s School of Dance in Albion, IL.

By 1976, Shannon had relocated SSD to another space in Town Center Mall of Evansville. The studio quickly flourished building a reputation in the community for its outstanding dance instruction. Located in Town Center for over 30 years, SSD has instructed several generations of students.

Michelle Crosbie, former Shannon’s dance student and instructor, bought the studio from Shannon in 2002. She has been the school’s owner ever since.
An accomplished dancer and instructor, Michelle is involved in many charity events with Shannon’s and her own dance team, The Sassquad. “Miss Michelle” is an avid cook, and has also has appeared in print for her interior design aesthetic in which she credits her mom, Earlene, as her biggest influence.

Today, Shannon’s School of Dance @ The Studio has relocated to 3111 First Avenue from it’s old home of 40 + years on Diamond Avenue. The new studio offers more space and a much improved ambience.

SSD continues to be the preeminent dance school in The Tri-State. With several hundred students ranging in age from 3 to adult, Shannon’s School of Dance offers tap, ballet, jazz, acrobatic, hip-hop, lyrical, and ballroom dance classes as part of its well-rounded program.

As a compliment to its exceptional training, what sets apart Shannon’s School of Dance is an intangible, enduring sense of community and camaraderie that exists among students, parents and teachers. Shannon’s provides a quality dance education within a nurturing and supportive environment in the same manner today as its inception over 40 years ago.
